This shit has happened throughout with DC and WB. They were making a Batman prequel show but then they wanted a new Batman movie (which would eventually become Batman Begins) so switched to make Smallville. In the Arrow verse they had to kill off their version of Suicide Squad because of the movies.

Executives just juggle that shit. Birds of Prey was bad because basically all the characters were nothing lik the comics:
