Here are the DC movies listed chronologically. Birds of Prey was released before Batfleck was fired. Remember that the Snyder Cut rekindled hopes for a Batman movie with afleck in the director's chair. Then he left the project, and Matt Reeves came in with the new Batman.

Affleck was already not going to be the Batman for Reeves' movie in 2018. Maybe it didn't mean he was fired, but Reeves was definitely not going to use his version of Batman

I think both Reeves and Robbie projects are trash. Birds of Prey was one of my fav DC books and the movie had next to nothing to do with them, fundamentally altering the team and characters.
Plus the Reeves films felt like warmed over leftovers from the Nolan films. It really didn't seem like a good way forward for a new Batman film.

This shit has happened throughout with DC and WB. They were making a Batman prequel show but then they wanted a new Batman movie (which would eventually become Batman Begins) so switched to make Smallville. In the Arrow verse they had to kill off their version of Suicide Squad because of the movies.

Executives just juggle that shit. Birds of Prey was bad because basically all the characters were nothing lik the comics:

Its mostly a pretty solid movie up until that lame boiler plate capeshit ending. It wasn't doing anything new or original, but it works. Fish out of water stuff, setting it in WWI was a good idea, added some novelty. Its also not afraid to be a little light hearted and goofy as opposed to the dour self-serious tone that blighted their other movies.
