That just convinces me even MORE that a Dragon Ball Z remake will smash records. A faithful remake that adapts Z with Daima/Wano quality animation would easily bypass $500 million and exceed $900 million. Japan is scared of that because if Toei did it the Top 10 Japanese box office would all be DBZ. It's pretty much the only anime franchise that can hit $1 billion.
I'm even more convinced since a good chunk of Demon Slayer's money came from zero competition this month. They were very smart (but very cowardly) to avoid the summer blockbusters.
I hope Toei will do it just to see the sheer butthurt from weebs and anime studios it generates. DBZ, like One Piece and Naruto, is one of the three series that makes everyone seethe.
