The notion that Shadow would go for a girl simply because she's superficially like Maria is kind of offensive. Shadow and Maria's bond was far deeper than that, he didn't like her *only* because she was kind. It feels like people who explain their ships with "she's like Maria" are just trying to replace what Shadow had with the real Mara, but that type of bond can't just be replicated.
