As we see in RotJ, with the AT-AT's ambling through Endor Moon's forest, their slender legs can weave between small trunks and advance the fighting compartment smoothly. With how the chassis stands midline to the canopy, an AT-AT could act as a mobile helipad or firebase, or pull up directly alongside the Ewoks' treehouses. (Broadside / drive-by shooting)
It's down to the limited imagination (and budgets) of Hollywood producers, to never show an AT-AT's various potential utilities onscreen.
>ur crazy, it has no utilities
No doubt it's silly, but the point is to have fun & fantastical answers to problems. And "Helipad Dinosaur" is like that.

Crazy to me, how so few people break down what's under the hood with Star Wars.
Most nerds don't want to understand what's playing on their minds. They just want Escape and that's it.
I'll also point out the AT-AT's main compartment resembles an A7V.
I have doubts that Lucas was enough of a war history nerd, to know about the A7V in the 1960's-70's when he was dreaming up this Buck Rogers / Flash Gordon tribute...
... but since Galactic Empire is mostly German Axis (with IJN uniform accents), it'd make sense.
