When the devs throw in a random male every once in a while, people will react in the way they were conditioned to -- to evaluate that character based on their attractiveness like they do each time 90% of the time, when females are released. Because they aren't gay, they don't want to pull on a male, because males are still filtered through the decision protocol players are used to following when choosing a character to play. Additionally, pulls are a scarce resource, and so when players are forced to save and choose between characters they find the most attractive, why would they waste pulls on the occasional man they throw in when there are 10 pretty girls around the corner that can be chosen instead? I agree that it's not necessarily gay to pull for a man you think is cool and plays well, but the problem is Kuro tends to release femboys which still pander to players on a spectrum of sexual attraction, but most people aren't gay so they avoid pulling
additionally, in the climate of this game, the only REAL objectively gay you can do is to pick the male version of a character when you have the option to play as a female, for the reasons stated above. When you have a hyper attractive female character you can pick, in a game whose culture is balanced around evaluating the sexual attractiveness of characters, you absolutely are a homosexual if you opt for the male. And no, self-inserting is not the behavior of a heterosexual individual.
