CV2 is the weakest and this is including the three kinda shitty GameBoy titles. Barely any of its concepts are done well and most of them clash with one another.
The original CV has overall very basic mechanics, but strong level design that utilize those mechanics really well. That's pretty much the CV identity.
Simon's Quest, while ambitious, made a mistake by attempting to fit that same simplistic gameplay into a world that is not suited for it.
Non-linear Castlevania does not work with the Classicvania's restricted mechanics, since it requires very deliberate level design to stay engaging.
This is the core failing of the game and would have been enough to label it a failure, but there are multiple other problems on top, which really drags it down. Mansion's could have been a great opportunity to switch to a more structured, focused and unique challenge, but they are almost all far too braindead to add anything to the game. Not to mention the mind numbing visuals.
Bosses infamously don't even seem finished, which makes the emptiness of the final dungeon suspect, rather than being a really cool attempt to build up tension before the final boss.

The others may be mid, but CV2 is bad.
