I'll defend the Final Fantasy set for mostly fitting the aesthetics. Both FF and MtG are D&D-inspired high flying fantasy stories. Swords, magic, monsters abound. They are compatible flavors.
You can tell that this guy's a paladin, that guy's an evil sorcerer, that thing is an elemental monster, this is a big destructive spell that kills everybody, the magic crystal artifacts do magic things, the magic swords help your creatures kill things, and so on. It all makes sense.
Sure, you'll complain about the ramen, I know, but it's the only arrow in your quiver.
Few of the other UBs are so elegant, and that is the true shame.
