7900 has two compute chips (6 CPU cores in each), only one of them are utilized in latency-sensitive tasks like gaming.
If you're a gamer, the 9700X will generally be better because all 8 CPU cores are inside a single compute chiplet.
You probably don't need the 7900's extra 4 CPU cores if you don't understand multicores.
