It's not based around wanting to play the best character, it's based around people's perceived balance of the game. Most people complaining about top tiers is based around their ability to win more with their tools as well as their ability to counter others.
Since it's based around people who may feel disenfranchised by picking a character who, by design, is weaker than others, they will, should they be annoyed, comment against other characters for being 'better' and their players for 'being frauds' WHILST ALSO not wanting to play the 'better' characters more because they don't want their time wasted as well as feeling more attached to their main, versus a top tier.
BUT also not accepting your character is strong, not based on statistics that get faker day by day, but rather because with your knowledge, decided to downplay, shows not the character as a fraud, but rather it's player, for the simple fact they have a victim complex about picking a character in a video game.
