Unfortunately 99% of "death game" writers only know how to end stories a single way.
>main cast find a way to break the system
>hope arises as the mysteries behind the game are uncovered and the cast can see a way out
>suddenly everything goes south
>guess it was hopeless all along *queue abstractions*
>"guess all the characters you got immersed in we're just... le insignificant cog in the machine after all!"
>circus continues into the sunset
Happy endings don't exist for these settings because making the system vulnerable brings down it's threat level and the show wants you to see it as an oh so powerful representation of existential dread.
