It's tense and exciting, but for the most part it's not really that scary - especially compared to some more disturbing games, such as Silent Hill or Fatal Frame.

But if you have already beaten the original RE-trilogy + the couple spinoffs before RE4, you should do just fine. It's just the "next step" in evolution really.

That being said, RE4 is a great game, one of the best, but it greatly benefits from having played the classic RE trio first.

With RE1-3, you got way more easier life, since GOG just released the old PC ports with fixes last year. Emulation of the PS1 classics with Duckstation is also piss easy on any computer made since the Windows ME days, and GC emulation for 2 and 3 are fine alternatives.

All of the classic REs got multiple ports and re-releases, some with less and some with more changes. I'll get to that in a second.
