Listen retard. Extirpating wolves did, in fact, cause herbivores to overpopulate. And they did, in fact, cause forests to partially collapse. The scale of human activity was never great enough compared to what deer can do to millions of acres of forest. All of the predators in an ecosystem are NATURAL, AND NECESSARY to maintain the current state of the ecosystem.

And in those last 5 words are why it didn't matter. Removing wolves objectively changed the state of the ecosystem. But it did not cause it to collapse. It replaced it with another type of ecosystem and animal populations left, arrived, grew, and shrank to fit the new state caused by overpopulated deer and elk. It was totally fine for us, and it was totally fine for life in general. I suppose that in the end, the same amount of animals lived and died over the same after the ecosystem adjusted to wolf removal. Adding wolves back was in fact restoring the ecosystem to its original state, but the human modification didn't turn the ecosystem into a wasteland. It turned a few woods into something closer to grassland.

It is totally fine to shape an ecosystem as we see fit. Do you want to live around wolves? No. Not even the wolves (dogs) want to live around wolves.
