Kenshi is one of the only games I play. Overrides are one of the greatest creations ever handed down in gaming. Simple, elegant, incredibly underused. Same goes for what's possible with dialogue. Seeing Kenshi for the skin Chris gave it is how you end up disappointed. There is a lot more going on here than the marketed game offers - going so far as to say that the modding community has failed to extend the game in the meaningful ways it could. Not saying it's easy to do so, rather, there's a lot of opportunity here.
Walking away from Kenshi 1 and changing engines remains a shock to me. We've only scratched the surface on what Chris and his band of often unacknowledged assistants who cobbled together this jankfest. People run the game for hundreds of hours nowadays and it doesn't crash. The vistas are still impressive to behold. The game runs much better than the pissy critiques might imply it generally does. Is it the best game ever? Hell no. Is it in my top 5? Yes. Should it be? Yes. If the rave reviews didn't make it clear then I'm not sure what would other than a direct comment like this. There are a lot of great games out there and this qualifies as one of them for a lot of people.
