It's a terrible attempt at preventing panic autofire, providing a soldier with a controlled burst so the bullets go more or less in the same place (not really), and. The M16 burst works on a ratchet system so you have to HOLD down the trigger for all three shots before it resets. It also doesn't reset if you take your finger off the trigger after only one or two shots, so your next "burst" will be whatever you had left before the reset. Absolutely retarded shit. Stoner was right.

It uses standard NATO magazines and is also configured to stabilise NATO 5,56mm bullets properly. The French had a bit of a rebellious streak going on at a few points since NATO's inception.

They're known as "tactical" silencers/suppressors. They're not meant to be sneaky beaky but to just reduce the overall sound profile (in this case, the bang) of shots which helps conceal to the position of the shooters to the enemy, giving you a longer window of surprise if you're not easily visible.

'NEIN EVERY INFANTRYMENSCH SHOULD BE A SHARPSHOOTER'
Although this comes off as retarded fudd boomer shite, if you remove the benefit of hindsight, this philosophy wasn't totally unfounded as we see some of the meme returning even now with the XM7. Not to mention at the time the StG was being introduced, Germany was on the defensive and one of the chief ways to ravage an assault before they can reach you is to extend the fatal range that enemy troops have to cross (or pick off defenders from beyond their easy reach when you're on the attack). Not to mention the extra logistical fuckery a new weapon and cartridge would introduce when Germany had chronic ammunition issues throughout the entire conflict. Hitler was something of a tard on occasion, but he was reasonably wise to military and strategic matter so I'll forgive him on this front.
