It was in that Defense of Food book I read a few years back. The author 'buys' a cow. He pays for all its meds, food, care, and whatever entails buying a cow on a meat ranch.
He wanted to go see his cow get slaughtered. But they wouldn't let him despite him owning the cow. they said it was a matter of food security.
food security isn't about how secure your food is; has it been tampered with or any of that nonsense. it about food availability, its about can you reliably find a meal every day, unlike 20% or more of the world.
why cant we do journalism on the butchering of our food supply? Are you not proud of the processes that go on behind closed doors? and then put out a product that the world uses to stay alive?!
