It's funny you mention that because Zack Snyder's Justice League is explicitly based on Evangelion. It's why Cyborg has the tape recorder. The big wave of power that turns everyone into his husk slaves is an obvious allusion to the grand unification. The concept art leans even harder into that imagery.
