Zoomer here.
I had an older sister who would had it and she made me play certain sections that would make me scared shitless for her own amusement.
So while I am biased because of vague nostalgia, the remake just doesn't capture that je ne sais quoi. It feels like if you were to give the original devs modern resources and the same budget, their game would look nowhere near like the remake.
HOWEVER. With all that said, millennials just can't make good games. Sorry. I could pull up the laundry list of "Ummm, so that just happened" examples and prompt you to give me ones that aren't like that that weren't made by gen x, but I digress. Out of all the generations millennials have the hardest time letting go of their perceived ideals when it comes to any media, really, and drag their feet at any opportunity for innovation, which is why today you see so many chewed through copy cat ideas over and over again, meanwhile most zoomers are eccentric solo devs that are actually willing to experiment and go through the trial by fire completely independent of outcome.
Also, I was trying to find rule34 of the critic from ratatouille to use as picrel, but there unironically isn't any that has any inherent comedic value.
