Even with my nostalgia goggles, I know for certain that what we have now is way better than 2022/early 23 CAI. The only good things about CAI was being able to chat an unlimited number of bots at once(multiple tabs) and how the bots stood their ground on convictions(you could butter them for hours and they wouldn't relent). And I guess 3 replies genned at once was nice, too.
But 4k token context size means that they started forgetting things after 5~15 messages, depending on the size of your definitions.
The best time for this general was when we had unlimited Opus through proxies like mysteryman and others. I remember that there was a 6+ month stretch where Opus was ubiquitous. Everyone was using it freely. There was an unlimited amount of GPT, too.
