Tolkien was anti-Nazi, but only insofar as he thought of them as a foreign, totalizing force that was antithetical to the Anglosaxon way of life. He was the arch-Conservative and hated everything about globalism and modernity, and the industrial and expansionist German state offended his sensibilities. Furthermore, he was just as, if not more so, repulsed by the Commies.
Tolkien's ideal life would be to settle down in a quite little shire with his wife and kids, studying and translating ancient Anglo Saxon, Norse, and Germanic literature, and never seeing a non-Anglo again in his life. And that's precisely the ethos he used to write Lord of the Rings, which is precisely why the Commies want to repudiate his work.
