Tolkien was anti-Nazi, but only insofar as he thought of them as a foreign, totalizing force that was antithetical to the Anglosaxon way of life. He was the arch-Conservative and hated everything about globalism and modernity, and the industrial and expansionist German state offended his sensibilities. Tolkien's ideal life would be to settle down in a quite little shire with his wife and kids, studying and translating ancient Anglo Saxon, Norse, and Germanic literature, and never seeing a non-Anglo again in his life. And that's precisely the ethos he used to write Lord of the Rings, which is precisely why the Commies want to repudiate his work.
