This but not in the way anon probably thinks. Horror is at its core familiarity, for the "Modern" Audience the idea of Marketable Mascots is more "Close" then monsters based on Animals, weird tracks found in the woods, that weird smelly guy who lives at the edge of the village or the local Nobleman who is abusing his authority.
Let me put it this way. Who is "predating" on normal fags these days? Companies. What do Companies have? marketable Mascots, therefore the "Predator" for a Normalfag in the modern day is a Company (and the Mascot just serves as its "Monster"), and subconciously many of the normalfags are aware of this.
That is why so much mascot Horrors has "Snraglebugbum may be an abomination, but Snraglebugbum Incorporated is the TRUE Villain behind it all by being a greedy company!" plotlines.
