Forgot to mention that a good aspect of original BW was the mon distribution was actually really varied. I was surprised at how much you could find even by the time of the second gym. Only problem is lots of evolution levels are gonna be post game only unless you grind a lot

I've been ever so slowly replaying the games and here's my expert opinion as of where I've gotten

>Emerald - Genuine GOAT. Any and all love it gets is well deserved. And flaws I might have with it are from the general game mechanics at the time such as lack of physical/special split and limited item slots. If you did a one to one port of Emerald with modern quality of life features and mechanics it'd be the undisputed best game ever
>FRLG - The original "faithful remake" for better or for worse. It's Kanto but with an uglier coat of paint to be honest, the Hoenn tile set looked better. Still pretty good as far an outdated region goes but a lack of new features until the very short post game leaves you wanting for more
>HGSS - Very good but there's some blatant nostalgia bias going on since all the flaws from the original games remain and if anything are compounded. What's the point of adding certain gen IV evolutions pre national dex but not others. Why is the Johto mon distributions so bad still. It's mostly saved by the better presentation and quality of life features. Still a tier 2 game though
>Platinum - So hugely overrated it's unbelievable. Story that tries too hard like an OC donut steel by that kid on the playground while also being retarded and too many jokes like an MCU movie. Probably the most boring region in the series with awful routes like fog, snow, and swamp, as well as a boring centerpiece "dungeon". Has the most overrated character in the franchise
>BW - Very good but my biggest complaint is it's too short. I don't mind the linear design since the routes themselves are well designed but they needed more of them. Very kino story that's front and center. Forcing you to use only new mons is good. Complaints about "muh ice cream" is stupid but they fucked up on the evolution levels. Also the general lack of HM usage is a godsend compared to fucking Sinnoh
