Oh yes, H&K did some crackpipe fueled experiments with an absurd rifle using spoontipped projectiles during the early 1970s. The notion was to maximize terminal effect and make the trajectory mega-flat, yet have them destabilize and quickly lose speed after 300m or something like that. For safety.
You need to post the rifle and magazines too, that shit was goofy as hell. The HK36 rifle itself used this 4.6x36mm cartridge and H&K's favorite roller-delayed blowback, it had a VERY high cyclic rate at 1200rds and a very in-line stock.
The magazine was the more absurd part, initially using conventional detachables, but eventually it was a 30rd box fixed to the rifle and had a door on left side, you'd drop in a fucking 30rd plastic packet (en-bloc/Mannlicher clip?) into there and shut the door, this being intended to be lighter than detachable steel magazines. I forgot what that fucking tape even did.
It had no irons, only a built in reflex sight, they were really trying to be the next futuristic thing possible next to the still developing G11.
