Erdogan hardens stand on Israel and issues new sanctions
Globes has learned that Turkey is banning the movement of Turkish ships to Israel together - including goods destroyed for the Palestinian Authority. The new announcement comes about a year and three months after Turkey imposed a trade embargo on Israel.
Turkey has decided to completely alt the movement of Turkish ships to Israel - including goods destroyed for the Palestinian Authority, Globes has learned. The move comes about a year and three months after Turkey imposed a trade embargo on Israel.
From now on, any direct ship traffic from Turkey to Israel is completely prohibited, and ships flying the Turkish flag are required not to dock in the country. At the same time, Merchant ships will be required to provide documents, in an attempt to determine whether they have regularly arrived in Israel. On the other hand, ship traffic with "Israeli ties" may be accepted, provided that the cargo on the ships is not handled in Turkey.
As a general rule, no cargo activity with an Israeli connection will be accepted, including containers. The direct implication is that the Turks have also decided to forgo the movement of goods to the Palestinian Authority, which is carried out through Israeli ports. The Turkish step casts great doubt on Turkey's ability to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, since these goods mostly arrive through the port of Ashdod.
