Long story short mate, you can use reasonable force to subdue someone if it’s to prevent theft of property or perform a citizens arrest. You may not cause grievous bodily harm or end their life as it’s a misdemeanour.

If your life or liberty or the life or liberty of another is in danger you may use any and all reasonable means to end their life as long as it can be evidenced that people were at risk. There is nothing about having to use the same weapon as the offender.

So a person is not guilty of an offence if the offence is carried out to prevent theft or injury, and in the case of murder, is not guilty if a person’s life or liberty was at risk
