It's because Greek Gods are like the original superheroes. That's why the Disney Hercules feels like a Superman story and people say superheroes kind of replaced mythological figures. Also completely incidentally/coincidentally the original Digimon artstyle was inspired by western 90s comics like DC/Marvel at the time, Spawn and Hellboy. A ton of Digimon reference them even new ones like DoneDevimon (Spawn and Venom) and a ton of new Digimon still reference Japanese heroes like the Bond Digimon and Mercy mode. Time Strangers theming just works really well. More than people realize.
