I'm just saying that it's less of a subplot and more of a shift in Loid's mentality towards Yor. One of the common reactions Japanese fans had to Loid's conclusion was that it was more of a punchline because he describes learning about Yor in the same way a researcher would talk about studying a newly discovered organism. So like how he sometimes observes Anya to better understand her, he decided to go about observing Yor in the same way.
And honestly, that is still a change in how he has treated her up until now. He always just ignored her until she dropped a crisis in his lap: butt bullet date, jealousy of Fiona, sudden marriage gripes. The only times he'd try to understand her were times when he thought she wanted to end their marriage. So just having him passively monitoring her is a step up from ignoring her when she's not upset.

He's in a tough spot because even outside of academics, Anya wouldn't be able to earn that many stars without seeming suspicious, and he can't use the same excuse as last time. He shouldn't even have been on the campus at all when he first met Donovan, so no doubt he looked suspicious with or without any mind reading involved.
Anya might be able to stay behind like last time if she manages to stay awake, but that seems like a huge risk if any of the speculation around Donovan links her to him.
