I too have puzzled over this. I assume its a matter of money. The money so far is in drug treatment because its legal and the government normally pays for it. There was never an earnest war on tobacco; it was all about saving health insurance costs. They continue to sell alcohol and now sell weed.
So I think there must be more money in selling junk food. It has puzzled me, as many contradictions from the mental health profession, how a 300 pound woman obviously displaying signs of morbid stress induced, habitual apathy and diet incompetence, isnt involuntarily committed to institutional care on sight.
It goes back to that screed on liberties I posted upthread I guess. People seem to want the right to be obese.
It reminds me of the Finnish study they did on smokers, expecting to find that smokers cost the taxpayer more in health costs. Instead they found that they die sooner and save the government money on collecting social and retirement benefits.
So now we have to question motives on that front also.
