I too have puzzled over this. I assume its a matter of money. The money so far is in drug treatment because its legal and the government normally pays for it. There was never an earnest war on tobacco; it was all about saving health insurance costs. They continue to sell alcohol and now sell weed.

So I think there must be more money in selling junk food. It has puzzled me, as many contradictions from the mental health profession, how a 300 pound woman obviously displaying signs of morbid stress induced, habitual apathy and diet incompetence, isnt involuntarily committed to institutional care on sight.

It goes back to that screed on liberties I posted upthread I guess. People seem to want the right to be obese.

It reminds me of the Finnish study they did on smokers, expecting to find that smokers cost the taxpayer more in health costs. Instead they found that they die sooner and save the government money on collecting social and retirement benefits.

So now we have to question motives on that front also.

So the solution to this seems to be endlessly importing desperate people, loading them up on consumerism for one generation, and then letting them croak. No one ever advances beyond their own lifetime, and now the government in concert with the corporate world can turn the population up or down based on need. But the actual individual citizens are fucked.

In short, the plan seems to be to catch labor "from the wild" outside the borders to import the most desperate easy to please people and never let them earn enough to repopulate themselves on their own terms. So no one ever has anything or can keep it.

This is basically human ranching and they dont want the herd to manage themselves. By keeping them in a perpetual state of desperation, the elite decide how many workers they have, which drives wages into the dirt, as well as expectations and cross-generational standards for better living conditions from the leaders in charge.

They bait the labor as young men from the less developed nations, entice them, then cut them short and basically feed them to death so that by the time their working life is over, they are already near dead and could afford few or no children of their own, so the government has the most efficient supply of working age males only at the lowest cost.

I'll leave it there, I didnt mean to write a book, but thats just my take.
