I love my 1911 to death, it's an amazing pistol for target shooting, competition, and generally having fun. However, it is an obsolete design. You're going to be overpaying for a modernized 1911 with a double stack mag and a rail if you want to stand up to the competition, and it is still single action only AFAIK. The main issue is price and action. Anyone here saying 1911s are unreliable are retarded, the only issues you'll get with a well made 1911 are if you forget to lubricate and/or clean it.
