I just thought it was meant to be a jarring scene.
The rest of the game is incredibly chaotic and distressful, then you finally get to the source of all that chaos and it's this tranquil image.
It just creates a nice contrast, plus you can read it as a reflection of Skull Kid's state of mind - he's not actually doing anything wrong, he's just a kid playing in a peaceful field (or I guess not playing cause the other kids and Link are playing without him)
