Now let me explain this to you because there's a hell of a lot of nostalgia blinders that keep people from realizing this:

POKEMON WAS ALWAYS LOW EFFORT
Gens I and IV literally shipped broken on release
Gen II had to be saved by Iwata at the last minute after throwing out half the game for some reason
Gens VI and VIII looked incompetent compared to the previous 3D titles on the Gamecube and again got gutted for some reason
Gen IX is literally Pokemon Oblivion

The games can be fun. But lets not delude ourselves into thinking they were ever quality outside of maybe Gen V and that was because that was being micromanaged by the one guy on the team who actually knew what he was doing..
