Because the first part still felt like there was some hope to fix him, and he was trapped in a situation that was easy to understand why he couldn't break free from considering his age and mental state but after that he just kept making dumb decision after dumb decision by himself when he was in a much better environment to be able to get his shit together (at least in theory) so I just kept thinking how the kid was a lost cause and it was pretty depressing.

I dropped right before the trip he takes with Ian so maybe my perception will change if I finish it though.
