I don't know what's going on in this thread, but I'm using this as an excuse to name drop La-Mulana, which probably has my favorite version of this trope.

In La-Mulana an alien goddess named Mother loses her ability to remain in space and crash lands on earth. In order to get back into space, Mother gives birth to generations of "children", sapient races, in the hopes one of them will be smart enough to build her a ship and gtfo the planet. After like 7 generations and millions of years everything is shit: 2 generations of children try stealing her power, the closest gen trip before the finish line and succumb to identity-politic wars, a foreign alien civ (the Annunaki) briefly invade to try and kill her and enslave her children, and Mother is left old and infertile.
Going through menopause, Mother decides to murder-suicide the planet and be done with it; humanity, the 8th and last gen, end up stopping her via platforming and puzzle-solving.
