>it still is desu and rightly so. i don't really view generic as a bad word though. LOTR is fucking awesome
generic is the wrong choice of wording, Influential is a more correct term when describing things like LOTR or even Skyrim. It's only generic if the aesthetic and writing system was already a popular thing. For example, Shrek, despite it being heavily influenced by classic folklore and disney, was still largely one of the most influential animated films of all time due to it's somewhat adult humor and it's novel at the time subversion of the Disney fantasy sub-genre, which was already burnt out at the time. now the bajillion shitty shrek and south park clones hollywood shat out ever since? That's generic. In a video game context? think five nights at Freddie's; I don't even need to explain all of you how influential that game was, nor how generic (and shit) 90% of it's clones were. Catching my drift? Back to Skyrim (or even TES in general), can you tell me a different game that's even comparable what Bethesda made? CDPR? Cyberpunk's is a GTA clone with even less RPG features than what people claim Fo4 to be. BG3? a Dragon age clone wearing the skin of Baldur's Gate. Fromsoft? Glorified 3d Diablo clones with parry and roll mechanics. Not saying these are bad games, but when people commonly claim that Skyrim isn't even an RPG, 90% of these people have the cultural knowledge of a kindergartener.
