Ken Akamatsu and Yamada Taro in Japan are pretty active over there defending the expression of anime and manga. But the difference is that anime and manga and games are among Japan's primary cultural exports, so they have a vested interest in defending them. Over here, it's treated as a weird foreign media encroaching on the territory of Hollywood and capeshit comics, which is at least partly why we have so few people defending them.
