I live in the UK and all the schools around here require a suit and tie uniform, but it has made no impact on fashion amongst adults
Pretty much every school kid doesn't think twice about his uniform, it's just a uniform, they never once pay attention to the aesthetics of it. And since it's a uniform, they have no choice in the aesthetics of it, meaning they cannot learn any fashion taste surrounding suits.
The reason suits died is a multitude of reasons
>stretchy fabrics
modern stretchy fabrics allowed clothes to be made in simpler ways, the t-shirt is possible only with stretch fabrics, non stretch fabrics require a button up mechanism
>washing machines
Clothes can be easily washed now, meaning it's no longer necessary to have undershirts.
>central heating
houses are warmer, we don't need to wear heavy clothing indoors anymore
>fatter people
people are fatter now, they don't get cold as easily anymore so they don't need heavy clothing
>cars
people don't need to spend time walking outside anymore, they are inside a warm car so they don't need protection against the elements
>casualisation of society
formalities and other rigid structures have vanished, nobody is expected to have a buttoned up appearance anymore
This goes hand in hand with the hippie revolt against that same culture, deliberately pushing away from the suit.
>modern innovations
zippers are cheaper than ever and have replaced buttons almost everywhere
foam has replaced leather has a comfortable medium for shoes
smooth clean roads have eliminated the need for walking canes
