it's okay at building basic hand-eye coordination skills and for breaking down a reference, like de-constructing a figure, anatomy tracings or figuring out the perspective of an image, tracing to correct something you can't figure out, tracing to check proportions etc.
but you won't retain much unless you test yourself by trying to do it again without tracing. worksheets for learning handwriting have fewer and fewer guidelines until you can do it without tracing.
tracing can easily become a mindless activity where you don't learn anything. so keep that in mind unless you want to just spin your wheels.
