Why is latency on Wayland so inconsistent? The cursor feels very sluggish on something like Sway, but GNOME feels relatively snappy in comparison, similar to Xorg.

I'm trying a Wayland-based Linux distro and I'm wondering what the ideal mpv settings are for Wayland. I know that for X11, you have:
vo=gpu
gpu-context=x11
What's good for Wayland? Something like this maybe"

hwdec=auto
hdr-compute-peak=no
