They’re doing it because they’re jaded shit heads. They believe through the most asinine mental gymnastics that being “hopeful” will spite whoever they’re currently up against ideologically. It’s the same kind of smug moralizing shit that people were doing in the 2010s just updated to seem more generalized. The people that say shit like this will still lament how the world is fucked and everything is terrible but they will put on a mask of being empathic and kind since that’s the image that they need to cultivate. And if anyone calls them out they will just write them off and push them as being a cynic or nihilist. Think about it, the people that claim to be beacons of hope always seem to have the same behavioral patterns, angsty, histrionic, melancholic, sarcastic, and irony poisoned so badly they need to add five layers to whatever they do not to go into withdrawals (read panic attack)
