I think a lot of us modulate between being bored and being stressed and both are bad for us. That other spastic was on the right lines (after that embarrassing first line), being bored and purposeless does make you depressed and one reason for that is you end up living too much inside your own head. You need something to shoot for, and if you don't know what you like or what you want then you have to expose yourself to new stimuli until you do.
