>Badly written character
Well, I can't say him having terrible development is entirely his fault. I think most inconsistencies come from the time travel jumps as a result of the Infection arc. Friendship suffers from it too, even Soarin and Future Soarin. But I guess Arinos gets the shorter end of the steak just because there wasn't all that much to do with him really. Only reason why he kept being a little relevant is that he's at least more charismatic than Friendship. Someone who is already struggling to develop a personality.
>At first he was a cartoon villain, then anti hero-
I don't think that's true? He did fight Twilight when he got trapped and there wasnt any other choice but he was never presented as an antagonist. He's just way too autistic, and same as Flawless they were just born powerful. Having a being that has no social skills or even selfawarenes can get dangerous. Anti-hero? He hasn't shown any heroic type of attributes ever. Maybe acted as a guide for Soarin but that'll be the most positive thing he has done, other than greeting Soarin on his wedding. The other situations were mostly beyond his control and ended very badly, favoring the interests of other characters.
>Flawless doesn't have this problem because mare episodes explore far more than shipping
This also implies Arinos was made exclusively for shipping. I don't think that's the case, if it was I don't know anymore. Nobody really seemed to care about his thing with Friendship because it was just an scene that came out of nowhere and had no build up or developmept. Just as their characters. Trapped on the stallion melodrama shit? Yeah probably... Man I wish there were some lighthearted episodes with the stallions sometimes. But hey, most stallion episodes have cool fights and animation. Can't complain.
One thing that struck me as odd was how easily he and Friendship were discarted from Clean Sweep's arc. After being teased at the ending of Outbreak and Soarin&Braeburn's weeding. Like Tamers suddently changed his mind about something and decided to switch antagonist to Prof Kirin. I can't say they could have worked better as antagonists, I don't think so. But still why the sudden change? Or is he cooking up some shit that requires em to fuck off for most of the plot until they're needed?
Flawless also has the popularity card. And considering how much Tamers could have exploited it. I think he has handled her the best in that regard. Only thing I could complain is how her competent self went away after being adopted by Twilight and Trixie. So it feels a little odd that the Flawless that could reunite Mari with Trixie or the one that could swap dimensions to survive a fatal death can't find her fucking house in Trixie gets fired episode.
But because she's popular she gets to have more development and screentime. I fear Tamers might be the type of guy to switch things up when things don't work.
