I thought it was pretty cowardly the way GRRM let pic related take all the heat for the ending. He could've stepped in and told everyone that this was the ending he envisioned for the books and that he'd instructed them to end the show this way. Instead he never once said a word and still hasn't.

And props to David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for not just throwing the fat bastard under the bus. I probably would have. They copped an awful lot of shit and they never ratted on him.
