Part of what made anime and manga good was it wasn't created by people with the same culture, society, history and ways of thinking as people have in the West. Literally most of developed countries and people in the West share a lot of those things because of Christianity and like 2000+ years of interacting with each other.

I remember the first feeling of attraction I had to anime, and then later manga, was that it was something very different and alluring. I wonder how much of this is being eroded by the Westernization and globalization of Japan? Already otaku culture is a shadow of what it was 30 years ago.

So what are Western 'mangaka' going to bring to the table? Are they going to try an emulate the Japanese, are they going to do the same thing they do with media in the West (god forbid)? I don't doubt there are some that would produce excellent stuff but I think the majority of it will just be dross. You could say that's the same for manga now, and that it always has been that way, and I'd find it hard to argue against it. But the bottom line is that globalization erodes culture and replaces it with a very poor, modern substitute.
