Take it out of Hogwarts, it's entirely about Harry working as an auror and it's a noir detective story. Harry and Ginny are the only characters from the original series who play a major role in it and the villain has nothing to do with Voldemort or death eaters or slytherin or grindlewald or whatever. There's a magical serial killer in Plymouth and Harry has to hunt him down, but he learns that his progress is being impeded by a corrupt Ministry of Magic official who turns out to be the guy's father. In the final confrontation all is revealed and the official is standing between Harry and the killer, but the killer is barely even human so he kills the official and then Harry sadly disarms him and ships him off to magic jail. It ends with Harry smoking a cigar in the rain and saying something very noir, and then in the movie adaptation it'll cut to slow jazz music and the end credits.
