also thanos finds her in the basement with the kids (another plot hole because thanos would have overpowered her instantly) but instead of using the kids to attack or hole thanos she risks getting physical with him

the staffs seem to let them do actual magic shit.

gandalf and the balrog didnt fight when the balrogs flames were out, it was running away from him trying to get outside so it could reignite or whatever and galdalf was just following it because if he killed it in the underdark he wouldnt know how to get out. once they both got out they fought and galdalf just used his magic sword and god strength to kill it (and then died from injuries himself)
