Well on some level it's down to personal preference, right? I'm used to GIMP and it does everything I need and it's free, so it's fine for me. I've got no issues with people using other programs, I encourage people to use what works for them, but people complaining that GIMP won't do x/y/z when it works just fine is odd.

Here you go lad, literally opened the pic up again just for you. Works for me.
A quick fix if yours keeps failing though would be snap to canvas edge then mid align.
