There's an effectively unlimited amount of stuff that you could have people do that would be useful, but not necessarily profitable under the current system. Why not have twice the amount of doctors so that you never have to wait for one, or electricians so that people aren't destroying their bodies by age 50 working 12 hour days to make ends meet? We have the technology and productive capacity to do it, just not the profit motive. It doesn't have to be an endless hellscape of ditch diggers
