I telhewhut, the real problem with automotive steel these days is that practically all manufacturers use cheap NARAs (Not A Real Alloy) instead of the real shit.
Just for an example, aircraft landing gear are one of the most demanding applications in the world, that want all of more specific strength, fatigue life, environmental resistance, et cetera et cetera. And what do they use? Not carbon fiber, not aluminum, but steels. They're using Aermet, S53, M54, Custom 475, Marage 350. Real nigga shit. We're talking 2000+ megapascal, twice as much tensile strength as an equivalent volume of T-5 titanium alloy, equal or greater specific strength accounting for density, on top of toughness and longevity that is physically impossible for aluminum or fiber-polymer composites, type shit. But people don't even know.
