pay at like tj maxx is $12/hr around there, mcdonalds or aldi $14-15...$12 x 20hrs = 240 a week x 4.5 = $1080/mo, so you'd be a bit close to the bone on one of these studios, but idk if there's any other major city where that math is even close to working. the rent is so god damn low there.

if you get a tipped job like baristo or ice cream scoopster in say lawrenceville, south side flats or squirrell hill you'll have it made, people tip quite well out there. i used to do ice cream for 8.25 an hour and baristo for 8, which was like 40 a day, and id make 20-30 in tips not that rarely.

the bus service in pittsburgh is really good as well -- if you live on any bus route that runs into downtown, you can commute to lawrenceville on the 91 or squirrel hill on the 61 a/b/c/d, both those buses run fairly often so even if you have to do a transfer onto them its a reasonable commute.
