In Genshin, they solved this by making it so that if you have the same character as the trial and yours is more invested in (better level, skills, equipment, constellations), you use your own character instead.
But here in Wuwa, you're just stuck with these stinky trial characters that aren't even built properly. So the enjoyment of playing the story is just thrown out the window. In later stories, the characters are at least built decently, so it's not that bad, but I still want to use my own characters that I paid for and invested time in.
